Soon after Dave Bautista restated his desire to play Marcus Fenix, Terry Crews expressed his interest in the live-action Gears of War movie. Netflix made the announcement they were developing a live-action Gears of War movie and an adult animated series in collaboration with the video game franchise’s original developer, The Coalition. With the cast needing to be built out, the action star has begun campaigning for himself.
A week after the live-action Gears of Wars movie was announced, Crews expressed his interest in the Netflix project via Gizmodo. The actor, known for Everybody Hates Chris, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Old Spice commercials says he would accept a role in the Gear of Wars movie “in a heartbeart.” Though even if he isn’t offered a part, Crews would still love to see the end result as a fan. Read what he said below:
Dave Bautista is a good, good friend and we talked about Gears of War years ago and I said, “Man, I would love to do this with you,” and he was like, “I’d love to do this with you. ” Now, I just hear that they’re this whole deal. It’s not up to me, but if I had the chance and if anyone wanted me for this movie and for this role, I would take it in a heartbeat. It is an amazing project. It’s an amazing game. Every part of that I would want to be in. I can’t wait to see who they do cast in the movie and whether I’m in it or not, I’m going to be watching. I’m a fan right along with everybody else.

What Role Terry Crews Could Play
Cole Train holding a gun in Gears of War
Similar to Bautista as Marcus Fenix, Crews is tailor-made for the role of Augustus Cole, aka Cole Train, in a live-action Gears of War movie. Crews is not only an accomplished actor, but he has the physical stature necessary to portray the COG soldier and former Thrashball player. Just like Cole who professionally played the fictional sport partially based on American football before joining the military as a Gear soldier, Crews was an NFL player before getting into acting.
Furthermore, Crews is good friends with Bautista and has had discussions with him in the past about a potential Gears of Wars movie. Now, with Netflix officially developing a live-action movie, these two castings could actually become a reality. Both Bautista and Crews have expressed interest in a Gears of Wars movie before, so they already have plenty of fan support behind them. Bautista even appeared in Gears of War 5 as a playable Marcus Fenix skin and donned the COG soldier’s signature armor for a promo.
In addition to Bautista as Fenix and Crews as Cole, there are a few other muscular men who could potentially round out Gears of Wars’ four main protagonists. Fans have long supported the idea of John Cena as Damon Baird who is also perfect for the role in terms of appearance and personality. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has also been frequently fan-cast as Dominic Santiago, though Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski wants a Latino actor to play Dom. While these fancastings may have previously been pipe dreams, there is now some chance they could actually happen, especially if Netflix’s Gear of Wars movie has a finger on the pulse of fans.
